What a snorkeling stop involves

You observe the reef from the surface using a mask and snorkel. Ask how you enter the water, where the guide stays, how the group returns to the boat and what the alternative is if you prefer to remain aboard. The name of a reef alone does not describe its conditions.

Before you get in

Tell the team your swimming confidence and any previous snorkeling experience. Confirm available flotation, mask fit and whether fins are supplied. Practice breathing with your face in the water where directed before following the group away from the entry point.
